  1  1    Amend Senate File 2410 as follows:
  1  2    #1.  Page 72, by inserting after line 20 the
  1  3 following:  
  1  4          "DIVISION ___ – STATE POISON CENTER
  1  5    Sec. ___.  NEW SECTION.  135.29A  STATE POISON
  1  6 CENTER.
  1  7    The director shall designate a state poison center,
  1  8 as directed by the general assembly, to provide poison
  1  9 information, telephone management advice and
  1 10 consultation, conduct hazard surveillance to achieve
  1 11 hazard elimination, and provide professional and
  1 12 public education in poison prevention, diagnosis, and
  1 13 treatment, and to provide any other services or
  1 14 functions necessary to be classified as a certified
  1 15 poison center.  The poison center shall not
  1 16 subcontract with a poison center outside of the state
  1 17 to provide the necessary services or functions.  The
  1 18 director shall provide the necessary documentation of
  1 19 the state poison center designation to the poison
  1 20 center for certification by the American association
  1 21 of poison control centers or other certifying
  1 22 organization.
  1 23    Sec. ___.  DESIGNATION OF STATE POISON CENTER.  The
  1 24 general assembly designates as the poison center for
  1 25 the state of Iowa the medical center which is
  1 26 operating a poison center on or before July 1, 1998,
  1 27 in the state.  The poison center shall meet all
  1 28 requirements necessary to be certified as a poison
  1 29 center by the American association of poison control
  1 30 centers and shall not subcontract with a poison center
  1 31 outside of the state to provide the required services
  1 32 or functions.  The director of public health shall
  1 33 provide any documentation necessary to the poison
  1 34 center for certification."
