1 1 Amend House Concurrent Resolution 15, as passed by
1 2 the House, as follows:
1 3 #1. By striking page 2, line 1, through page 3,
1 4 line 3, and inserting the following: "SENATE
1 5 CONCURRING, That the Legislative Council may appoint a
1 6 working committee to conduct a comprehensive study of,
1 7 and make recommendations regarding, the school finance
1 8 formula. The study may include a review of other
1 9 sources of kindergarten through grade twelve public
1 10 school funding. The working committee shall be
1 11 composed of ten members, representing both political
1 12 parties and both houses of the General Assembly. Five
1 13 members shall be members of the Senate, three of whom
1 14 shall be appointed by the Majority Leader of the
1 15 Senate and two of whom shall be appointed by the
1 16 Minority Leader of the Senate. The additional five
1 17 members shall be members of the House of
1 18 Representatives, appointed by the Speaker of the
1 19 House, three of whom shall be of the majority party
1 20 and two of whom shall be of the minority party. The
1 21 temporary co-chairpersons of the committee shall be
1 22 the chairpersons of the Senate and House Committees on
1 23 Education.
1 24 The committee shall be staffed by the Legislative
1 25 Service Bureau and the Legislative Fiscal Bureau. The
1 26 committee may begin its deliberations during the 1998
1 27 Session of the General Assembly, and, if the committee
1 28 is established, shall issue a report of
1 29 recommendations to the General Assembly by January 1,
1 30 1999. The Legislative Council may expend from moneys
1 31 appropriated in section 2.12 up to $150,000, or so
1 32 much thereof as is necessary, to fund the expenses of
1 33 the committee."
