  1  1    Amend Senate File 542 as follows:
  1  2    #1.  Page 5, by inserting after line 8 the
  1  3 following:
  1  4    "Sec. ___.  SNOW DISASTER EMERGENCY GRANTS TO
  1  5 COUNTIES.  There is appropriated from the general fund
  1  6 of the state to the department of public defense for
  1  7 the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1996, and ending
  1  8 June 30, 1997, the following amount, or so much
  1  9 thereof as is necessary, to be used for the purpose
  1 10 designated:
  1 11    For distribution by the emergency management
  1 12 division to assist those counties proclaimed by the
  1 13 governor to be in a state of disaster emergency as the
  1 14 result of a severe winter storm:  
  1 15 .................................................. $    100,000
  1 16    Funding distributed to a county eligible for
  1 17 assistance under this section shall not exceed the
  1 18 amount the county expended in excess of the county's
  1 19 approved budget amount for snow removal.  If the total
  1 20 amount of excess expenditures by all counties eligible
  1 21 for assistance exceeds the amount appropriated, the
  1 22 amounts distributed shall be prorated based upon a
  1 23 county's share of the total amount of excess
  1 24 expenditures by all counties.  If the total amount of
  1 25 excess expenditures is less than the amount
  1 26 appropriated, the remainder of the appropriation shall
  1 27 revert to the general fund of the state."
