  1  1    Amend House File 693 as amended, passed, and
  1  2 reprinted by the Senate, as follows:
  1  3    #1.  Page 9, by inserting after line 4 the
  1  4 following:
  1  5    "Sec. ___.  OBSTETRICAL STUDY.
  1  6    1.  a.  The Iowa department of public health shall
  1  7 conduct a study to verify the number of physicians by
  1  8 county practicing in Iowa who are engaged in
  1  9 obstetrical deliveries without regard to the
  1 10 physicians' areas of practice, specialties, or the
  1 11 areas of board certification.  The department shall
  1 12 further certify the number of specialists licensed as
  1 13 obstetricians and gynecologists by county.
  1 14    b.  The department shall additionally request from
  1 15 each physician engaged in obstetrical deliveries a
  1 16 copy of the malpractice insurance coverage maintained
  1 17 by each physician, the company providing the coverage,
  1 18 the annual premium paid, and any applicable
  1 19 deductible.
  1 20    2.  a.  The department shall conduct the study
  1 21 under subsection 1 within six months of the effective
  1 22 date of this Act and shall annually update the study,
  1 23 with a copy of the report to be delivered to the
  1 24 general assembly each year by January 15.
  1 25    b.  The department shall include in the annual
  1 26 report an analysis of the impact of this Act, if any,
  1 27 on the number of claims or actions commenced against
  1 28 physicians engaged in obstetrical deliveries.  The
  1 29 department shall also include in the annual report the
  1 30 number and percentage of increase or decrease from the
  1 31 previous year of physicians practicing in rural Iowa
  1 32 engaged in the delivery of babies or care of minors
  1 33 under the age of six.
  1 34    3.  The commissioner of insurance shall report by
  1 35 January 15 of each year to the general assembly
  1 36 whether medical malpractice premiums for pediatricians
  1 37 and obstetricians have been reduced since the
  1 38 effective date of this Act."
