  1  1    Section 1.  Section 123.136, unnumbered paragraph 1, Code
  1  2 1997, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    In addition to the annual permit fee to be paid by all
  1  4 class "A" permittees under this chapter there shall be levied
  1  5 and collected from the permittees on all beer manufactured for
  1  6 sale or sold in this state at wholesale and on all beer
  1  7 imported into this state for sale at wholesale and sold in
  1  8 this state at wholesale, and from special class "A" permittees
  1  9 on all beer manufactured for consumption on the premises, a
  1 10 tax of five and eighty-nine hundredths dollars for every
  1 11 barrel containing thirty-one gallons, and at a like rate for
  1 12 any other quantity or for the fractional part of a barrel.
  1 13 However, no tax shall be levied or collected on beer shipped
  1 14 outside this state by a class "A" permittee or sold by one
  1 15 class "A" permittee to another class "A" permittee.  
  1 16                           EXPLANATION
  1 17    This bill reduces the barrel tax on beer from $5.89 to
  1 18 $5.00 per 31-gallon barrel.
