  1  1    Section 1.  Section 645.1, subsection 3, Code 1997, is
  1  2 amended to read as follows:
  1  3    3.  "Owner" means an owner of a mercantile establishment
  1  4 and includes an owner's employee acting on behalf of the owner
  1  5 or an owner's representative.  
  1  6                           EXPLANATION
  1  7    This bill amends the definition of an "owner" of a
  1  8 mercantile establishment in Code section 645.1 to include a
  1  9 representative of the owner.  Chapter 645 pertains to the
  1 10 recovery of merchandise or damages by the owner of a
  1 11 mercantile establishment.  The bill would allow a
  1 12 representative of the owner to maintain an action under the
  1 13 Code chapter.
