1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 906.19 DISABLED PAROLEES –
1 2 SPECIALIZED UNITS – PAYMENT.
1 3 1. The Iowa department of corrections shall develop
1 4 specialized units which provide treatment and housing to
1 5 individuals on parole with special needs who require a
1 6 supervised residential placement, but are unable to work and
1 7 are not eligible for placement in a traditional halfway house.
1 8 Individuals with special needs include, but are not limited
1 9 to, individuals with mental disabilities.
1 10 2. The Iowa department of corrections shall provide the
1 11 funding for the cost of treatment, care, and maintenance of
1 12 parolees with special needs who require supervised residential
1 13 placement, including placement in a facility licensed under
1 14 chapter 135C, who are in the custody of the director of the
1 15 Iowa department of corrections or who are housed or supervised
1 16 by the judicial district department of correctional services.
1 17 EXPLANATION
1 18 This bill provides that the Iowa department of corrections
1 19 shall develop specialized units for the placement of parolees
1 20 with special needs, including parolees with mental
1 21 disabilities.
1 22 The bill also provides that the Iowa department of
1 23 corrections shall provide the funding for the cost of
1 24 placement of parolees with special needs who are in the
1 25 custody of the department or are supervised by the judicial
1 26 district department of correctional services.
