  1  1    Section 1.  Section 912.14, Code 1997, is amended to read
  1  2 as follows:
  1  3    912.14  VICTIM COMPENSATION FUND.
  1  4    1.  A victim compensation fund is established as a separate
  1  5 fund in the state treasury.
  1  6    2.  Moneys deposited in the fund shall be administered by
  1  7 the department and dedicated to and used for the purposes of
  1  8 section 709.10 and this chapter.
  1  9    3.  In addition, the department may use moneys from the
  1 10 fund for the following purposes of:
  1 11    a.  Funding providers of emergency shelter services and
  1 12 support services to victims of domestic abuse or sexual
  1 13 assault pursuant to section 236.15 and for the award of funds
  1 14 to.
  1 15    b.  Funding programs that provide services and support to
  1 16 victims of domestic abuse or sexual assault as provided in
  1 17 chapter 236.
  1 18    c.  Funding programs of local anticrime organizations, as
  1 19 defined in section 910.1.
  1 20    4.  Notwithstanding section 8.33, any balance in the fund
  1 21 on June 30 of any fiscal year shall not revert to the general
  1 22 fund of the state.  
  1 23                           EXPLANATION
  1 24    This bill adds programs run by local anticrime
  1 25 organizations, defined in Code section 910.1, as entities
  1 26 organized for the primary purpose of crime prevention which
  1 27 have been officially recognized by the chief of police of the
  1 28 city in which the organization is located or the sheriff of
  1 29 the county in which the organization is located, as eligible
  1 30 recipients of funds from the victim compensation fund
  1 31 established in Code section 912.14.
  1 32    The bill makes other technical changes to Code section
  1 33 912.14.
