1 1 Section 1. Section 256.11, subsection 13, unnumbered
1 2 paragraph 1, Code 1997, is amended to read as follows:
1 3 Notwithstanding subsections 1 through 12 and as an
1 4 exception to their requirements, a private high school,
1 5 private combined kindergarten through grade twelve school, or
1 6 private combined junior-senior high school operated for the
1 7 express purpose of teaching a program designed to qualify its
1 8 graduates for matriculation at accredited four-year or
1 9 equivalent liberal arts, scientific, or technological colleges
1 10 or universities shall be placed on a special accredited list
1 11 of college preparatory schools, which list shall signify
1 12 accreditation of the school for that express purpose only, if:
1 13 EXPLANATION
1 14 This bill permits a private combined kindergarten through
1 15 grade 12 school to be placed on a special accredited list of
1 16 college preparatory schools if the school complies with
1 17 minimum educational standards established by the Code other
1 18 than this section, and rules adopted under the Code,
1 19 applicable to courses comprising the limited program, health
1 20 requirements for personnel, plant facilities, and other
1 21 environmental factors affecting the programs. In addition, at
1 22 least 80 percent of those graduating from the school within
1 23 the four most recent calendar years, other than those
1 24 graduating who are aliens, graduates entering military or
1 25 alternative civilian service, or graduates deceased or
1 26 incapacitated before college acceptance, must have been
1 27 accepted by accredited four-year or equivalent liberal arts,
1 28 scientific, or technological colleges or universities.
