PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 483A.24, subsection 2, paragraphs b and 1 2 c, Code 1997, are amended to read as follows: 1 3 b. Upon written application on forms furnished by the 1 4 department, the department shall issue annually without fee 1 5one deer orone wild turkey license, or both,to the owner of 1 6 a farm unit or to a member of the owner's family, but not to 1 7 both, and to the tenant or to a member of the tenant's family, 1 8 but not to both. Thedeer hunting license orwild turkey 1 9 hunting license issued shall be valid only on the farm unit 1 10 for which an applicant qualifies pursuant to this subsection 1 11 and shall be equivalent to the least restrictive license 1 12 issued under section 481A.38. The owner or the tenant need 1 13 not reside on the farm unit to qualify for a free license to 1 14 hunt on that farm unit. 1 15 c. Upon request, the department shall issue to the owner 1 16 and to the tenant of a farm unit annually one or more free 1 17 deer hunting licenses. The free deer hunting license shall be 1 18 equivalent to the least restrictive license issued under 1 19 section 481A.38. The deer hunting licenses may be sold or 1 20 otherwise transferred to other persons who are otherwise 1 21 qualified to hunt deer except for the deer hunting license. 1 22 The free deer hunting licenses issued under this paragraph are 1 23 valid for hunting on the farm unit for which the applicant 1 24 qualifies pursuant to this subsection. 1 25c.d. In addition to the free deer hunting license 1 26 received, an owner of a farm unit or a member of the owner's 1 27 family and the tenant or a member of the tenant's family may 1 28 purchase a deer hunting license for any option offered to 1 29 paying deer hunting licensees. 1 30 EXPLANATION 1 31 This bill provides that, upon request, the department of 1 32 natural resources shall issue one or more deer hunting 1 33 licenses to the owner and to the tenant of a farm unit. The 1 34 deer hunting license is valid only on the farm unit for which 1 35 the applicant qualifies and shall be equivalent to the least 2 1 restrictive license issued under section 481A.38. The free 2 2 deer hunting licenses may be sold or otherwise transferred to 2 3 other persons who otherwise qualify for deer hunting except 2 4 for a deer hunting license. 2 5 LSB 1544HH 77 2 6 tj/sc/14
