1 1 Amend the amendment, H-8455, to Senate File 2406,
1 2 as amended, passed, and reprinted by the Senate, as
1 3 follows:
1 4 #1. Page 8, lines 38 and 39, by striking the words
1 5 "under the authority of the Iowa empowerment board".
1 6 #2. Page 8, by striking lines 46 through 50 and
1 7 inserting the following:
1 8 "2. A school ready children grants account is
1 9 created in the Iowa empowerment fund under the
1 10 authority of the director of the department of
1 11 education. Moneys credited to the account shall be
1 12 distributed by the department of education in the form
1 13 of grants to community empowerment areas pursuant to
1 14 criteria established by the Iowa board in accordance
1 15 with law.
1 16 3. An early childhood programs grant account is
1 17 created in the Iowa empowerment fund under the
1 18 authority of the director of human services. Moneys
1 19 credited to the account shall be distributed by the
1 20 department of human services in the form of grants to
1 21 community empowerment areas pursuant to criteria
1 22 established by the Iowa board in accordance with law."
1 23 #3. Page 10, line 37 by inserting after the word
1 24 "Act." the following: "The Iowa board shall submit to
1 25 the governor and the general assembly a proposed
1 26 funding formula for distribution of school ready
1 27 children grant moneys as necessary for statewide
1 28 implementation of the grant program for the fiscal
1 29 year beginning July 1, 1999, and subsequent fiscal
1 30 years."
1 31 #4. Page 11, line 46 by inserting after the word
1 32 "may" the following: "recommend that the appropriate
1 33 department".
1 34 #5. By renumbering as necessary.
