  1  1    Amend the amendment, H-8616, to Senate File 2366 as
  1  2 amended, passed, and reprinted by the Senate, as
  1  3 follows:
  1  4    #1.  Page 1, by inserting after line 13 the
  1  5 following:
  1  6    "Of the funds appropriated in this subsection,
  1  7 $300,000 shall be used to provide grants in the amount
  1  8 of $50,000 each to six school districts for extended
  1  9 year school pilot projects, and the department of
  1 10 education shall expend up to $60,000 to contract with
  1 11 an accredited private postsecondary institution or an
  1 12 institution of higher learning under the control of
  1 13 the state board of regents to conduct a study of the
  1 14 effectiveness of extended school years on student
  1 15 achievement."
  1 16    #2.  Page 4, by inserting after line 36 the
  1 17 following:
  1 18    "___.  School districts shall expend funds received
  1 19 for an extended school year pursuant to this section
  1 20 to, at a minimum, install air conditioning in
  1 21 attendance centers or finance other infrastructure
  1 22 needs of the school district related to an extended
  1 23 school year calendar, and to implement a calendar that
  1 24 may include, but is not limited to, modification of
  1 25 the current one-hundred-eighty-day calendar required
  1 26 pursuant to section 279.10, subsection 1.  The
  1 27 modified calendar shall include a rotation of nine
  1 28 weeks of attendance and three weeks of nonattendance
  1 29 until the one-hundred-eighty-day calendar year
  1 30 requirement is met."
