1 1 Amend the amendment, H-8616, to Senate File 2366,
1 2 as amended, passed, and reprinted by the Senate, as
1 3 follows:
1 4 #1. By striking page 2, line 13, through page 3,
1 5 line 50, and inserting the following:
1 6 "Sec. ___. NEW SECTION. 256.17A TEACHER
1 7 INTERNSHIP PILOT PROGRAM.
1 8 1. If the general assembly appropriates moneys for
1 9 the establishment and ongoing administration of a
1 10 teacher internship pilot program, the state board of
1 11 education shall establish and implement a competitive
1 12 pilot program approval process for a teacher
1 13 internship pilot program open to all Iowa colleges and
1 14 universities with master's programs in practitioner
1 15 preparation approved by the state board. An
1 16 internship program shall, at a minimum, include the
1 17 following:
1 18 a. A one-year teaching experience conducted in a
1 19 collaborating school district.
1 20 b. Application of best practices in diverse
1 21 settings and diverse student needs under the
1 22 mentorship of selected district teachers and
1 23 postsecondary personnel.
1 24 c. Seminars and special projects designed to meet
1 25 an intern's needs.
1 26 d. Support by master teachers.
1 27 e. Opportunity to attain coursework toward a
1 28 master's degree.
1 29 2. The amount of grant awarded to an institution
1 30 operating an approved teacher internship pilot program
1 31 shall be based upon the number of pilot program
1 32 participants at the institution, times the number of
1 33 credit hours generated up to a maximum of twelve
1 34 credit hours per participant, times two hundred
1 35 dollars.
1 36 3. Intern participants in a teacher internship
1 37 pilot program shall pay not more than two hundred
1 38 dollars per credit hour to the institution operating a
1 39 pilot program in accordance with this section.
1 40 4. a. There is appropriated from the general fund
1 41 of the state to the department of education for the
1 42 fiscal year beginning July 1, 1998, and ending June
1 43 30, 1999, the sum of two hundred twenty thousand
1 44 dollars for teacher internship pilot program grants.
1 45 b. There is appropriated from the general fund of
1 46 the state to the department of education for each
1 47 fiscal year of the fiscal period beginning July 1,
1 48 2000, and ending June 30, 2002, the sum of five
1 49 hundred seventy-five thousand dollars for teacher
1 50 internship pilot program grants."
