  1  1    Amend House File 706 as follows:
  1  2    #1.  Page 6, by inserting after line 30 the
  1  3 following:
  1  4    "Sec.    .  Section 9H.14, Code 1997, is amended to
  1  5 read as follows:
  1  6    9H.14  DUTIES OF SECRETARY OF STATE.
  1  7    1.  The secretary of state shall notify the
  1  8 attorney general when the secretary of state has
  1  9 reason to believe a violation of this chapter has
  1 10 occurred.
  1 11    2.  It is the intent of this section that
  1 12 information shall be made available to members of the
  1 13 general assembly and appropriate committees of the
  1 14 general assembly in order to determine the extent of
  1 15 farming being carried out in this state by
  1 16 corporations and other business entities and the
  1 17 effect of such farming practices upon the economy of
  1 18 this state.  The reports of corporations, limited
  1 19 liability companies, limited partnerships, trusts,
  1 20 contractors, and processors required in this chapter
  1 21 shall be confidential reports except as follows:
  1 22    a.  Information provided to the attorney general
  1 23 for review and appropriate action when necessary.
  1 24    b.  Information reported by an authorized entity
  1 25 pursuant to section 9H.5A relating to the approximate
  1 26 number of livestock owned, contracted for, or kept by
  1 27 the authorized entity, and the approximate number of
  1 28 offspring produced from the livestock.
  1 29    The secretary of state shall assist any committee
  1 30 of the general assembly existing or established for
  1 31 the purposes of studying the effects of this chapter
  1 32 and the practices this chapter seeks to study and
  1 33 regulate."
