1 3 RESOLUTION BY CHAIRPERSON GIANNETTO)
1 4 A Concurrent Resolution recognizing the women who have
1 5 served Iowa as state legislators and celebrating 100
1 6 years of women elected to state legislatures.
1 7 WHEREAS, twenty-five years before American women had a
1 8 constitutional right to vote, three women were elected to
1 9 serve as Colorado state legislators; and
1 10 WHEREAS, the National Foundation for Women Legislators,
1 11 Inc., the educational arm of the National Order of Women
1 12 Legislators, the oldest professional association for women
1 13 legislators in the country, is coordinating state, regional,
1 14 and national celebrations to commemorate the 100th year of
1 15 women serving in a state legislature; and
1 16 WHEREAS, this centennial is being celebrated throughout the
1 17 United States to promote public knowledge and awareness of
1 18 women in state history; and
1 19 WHEREAS, the following women are current or past members of
1 20 the following Iowa General Assemblies:

5 2 Iowa prepares to enter the 21st century; and
5 3 WHEREAS, these women deserve recognition for their
5 4 outstanding contributions to Iowa and for their
5 5 accomplishments as America's true "timeless pioneers"; NOW
5 6 THEREFORE,
5 7 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
5 8 CONCURRING, That the General Assembly extends its sincerest
5 9 appreciation to all of the women who have unselfishly served
5 10 Iowa as state legislators, and recognizes and joins in the
5 11 100th Year Celebration of Women in State Legislatures.
5 12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Secretary of the Senate
5 13 forward copies of this Resolution to the Commission on the
5 14 Status of Women, which shall make every reasonable effort to
5 15 forward copies of the Resolution to the legislators identified
5 16 in this Resolution, or to the families of those legislators
5 17 who are deceased, and to the National Foundation for Women
5 18 Legislators, Inc.
