1 1 Section 1. Section 80B.11, Code 1995, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 10. Minimum recertification requirements
1 4 for law enforcement officers, which shall include but are not
1 5 limited to the successful completion of a minimum amount of
1 6 in-service training prior to recertification.
1 7 Sec. 2. Section 80B.11B, Code 1995, is amended by adding
1 8 the following new subsection:
1 9 NEW SUBSECTION. 4. The Iowa law enforcement academy may
1 10 charge a fee as determined by the director of the academy and
1 11 approved by the council for recertification of a law
1 12 enforcement officer. The fee established shall not exceed the
1 13 reasonable costs incurred by the academy in administering the
1 14 recertification requirements. Funds generated from
1 15 recertification fees are appropriated to and shall be used at
1 16 the direction of the council for administration of the
1 17 recertification requirements.
1 18 EXPLANATION
1 19 This bill directs the Iowa law enforcement academy to
1 20 establish minimum recertification requirements for law
1 21 enforcement officers. The requirements shall include, but are
1 22 not limited to, the successful completion of in-service
1 23 training prior to recertification. The academy is permitted
1 24 to charge a fee to recover the costs of administering the
1 25 recertification requirements, and the funds generated by the
1 26 fee are appropriated to the academy for administration of the
1 27 recertification requirements.
