1 1 Section 1. Section 562A.5, Code 1995, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 8. Occupancy in housing owned by a
1 4 nonprofit organization whose purpose is to provide
1 5 transitional housing for persons released from drug or alcohol
1 6 treatment facilities and in housing for homeless persons.
1 7 Sec. 2. Section 562A.6, Code 1995, is amended by adding
1 8 the following new subsection:
1 9 NEW SUBSECTION. 15. "Transitional housing" means
1 10 temporary or nonpermanent housing.
1 11 Sec. 3. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act, being deemed of
1 12 immediate importance, takes effect upon enactment.
1 13 EXPLANATION
1 14 This bill provides an exclusion from the "Uniform
1 15 Residential Landlord and Tenant Act" for occupancy in housing
1 16 owned by nonprofit organizations to provide transitional
1 17 housing for persons released from drug or alcohol treatment
1 18 facilities and in housing for the homeless.
1 19 This bill becomes effective upon enactment.
