1 1 Section 1. The Iowa department of public health shall hold
1 2 a conference regarding domestic violence involving
1 3 representatives of the department of human services,
1 4 educational institutions, the medical community, businesses,
1 5 clergy, and judges involved in domestic violence cases. The
1 6 conference shall take testimony regarding domestic violence
1 7 issues, including persons who have researched the issue of
1 8 domestic violence and the treatment of persons involved in
1 9 domestic violence, and shall develop a comprehensive approach
1 10 to dealing with domestic violence, including proposals for
1 11 legislative changes. The conference shall present its report
1 12 to the general assembly by December 1, 1995.
1 13 The conference shall be funded by private contributions and
1 14 an allocation of state funds from the department of public
1 15 health for this purpose.
1 16 EXPLANATION
1 17 This bill directs the department of public health to hold a
1 18 conference on domestic violence. The conference shall include
1 19 representatives of the courts, the department of human
1 20 services, educational institutions, the medical community,
1 21 businesses, and the clergy. The conference is to take
1 22 testimony and present a report to the general assembly
1 23 regarding a comprehensive plan to address domestic violence
1 24 issues by December 1, 1995. The conference is to be funded by
1 25 private contributions and an allocation from the department of
1 26 public health.
