1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY VILSACK and TINSMAN
1 3 A Senate Resolution relating to the well-being of Iowa's
1 4 children.
1 5 WHEREAS, the citizens of Iowa have become
1 6 increasingly concerned for the safety and well-being
1 7 of their children; and
1 8 WHEREAS, Iowans as part of a long-standing
1 9 tradition are committed to a quality education for all
1 10 children; and
1 11 WHEREAS, Iowans are willing to commit their time,
1 12 their energy, and their resources to making a better
1 13 Iowa for children; NOW THEREFORE,
1 14 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That parents spend
1 15 time transporting their children to school, that
1 16 parents meet and talk with their children's teacher
1 17 about the children's performance in school, that
1 18 parents read to their children or encourage their
1 19 children to read and that the television be turned off
1 20 at least three hours a night, that the community,
1 21 particularly the clergy, become more active in
1 22 nurturing children by recognizing that it takes a
1 23 whole village to raise a child; and
1 24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the community,
1 25 particularly the clergy and judges, establish lines of
1 26 communication about children in need in order to avoid
1 27 future problems with the legal system.
