1 1 Section 1. Section 256.7, subsection 19, paragraph b, Code
1 2 1995, is amended to read as follows:
1 3 b. If the total hours of instructional school time for
1 4 grades one through twelve for any five consecutive school days
1 5 equal a minimum of twenty-seven and one-half hours, even
1 6 though any one day of school is less than the minimum
1 7 instructional hours because of a staff development opportunity
1 8 provided for the professional instructional staff or because
1 9 parent-teacher conferences have been scheduled beyond the
1 10 regular school day. Furthermore, if the total hours of
1 11 instructional time for the first four consecutive days equal
1 12 at least twenty-seven and one-half hours because of a staff
1 13 development opportunity provided for the professional
1 14 instructional staff or because parent-teacher conferences have
1 15 been scheduled beyond the regular school day, a school or
1 16 school district may record zero hours of instructional time on
1 17 the fifth consecutive school day as a minimum school day.
1 18 EXPLANATION
1 19 This bill permits a school week of any five consecutive
1 20 days to include four rather than five consecutive school days
1 21 if, because of additional hours devoted to professional
1 22 instructional staff development or to parent-teacher
1 23 conferences scheduled beyond the regular school day, a school
1 24 district achieves the minimum 27.5 total number of
1 25 instructional hours within the first four consecutive days.
