1 1 Section 1. Section 19A.3, Code 1995, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 23. Up to ten nonprofessional employees
1 4 designated at the discretion of each statewide elected
1 5 official.
1 6 Sec. 2. NEW SECTION. 19A.3A EMPLOYEES OF STATEWIDE
1 7 ELECTED OFFICIALS.
1 8 The exempt position classifications of employees of
1 9 statewide elected officials as of June 30, 1994, shall remain
1 10 exempt and any employees subsequently hired to fill any exempt
1 11 position vacancies shall be classified as exempt employees.
1 12 EXPLANATION
1 13 This bill provides that up to 10 nonprofessional employees
1 14 of each statewide elected official shall be exempt from the
1 15 merit system and that the exempt classification of other
1 16 employees of statewide elected officials shall be based upon
1 17 their classification as of June 30, 1994.
