  1  1    Section 1.  Section 216A.143, Code 1995, is amended to read
  1  2 as follows:
  1  3    216A.143  MEETINGS OF THE COMMISSION.
  1  4    The commission shall meet every other month at least once
  1  5 each quarter and may hold special meetings on the call of the
  1  6 chairperson.  The commission may adopt rules pursuant to
  1  7 chapter 17A as it deems necessary for the conduct of its
  1  8 business.  The members of the commission shall be reimbursed
  1  9 for actual expenses while engaged in their official duties.
  1 10 Members may also be eligible to receive compensation as
  1 11 provided in section 7E.6.  
  1 12                           EXPLANATION
  1 13    This bill requires the commission on the status of African-
  1 14 Americans to meet at least once each quarter.  Currently, the
  1 15 commission is required to meet once every other month.
