  1  1    Section 1.  Section 707.6A, subsection 1, paragraph a, Code
  1  2 1995, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    a.  Operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of
  1  4 alcohol or other drug or a combination of such substances or
  1  5 while having an alcohol concentration, as defined in section
  1  6 321J.1, subsection 1, of .10 or more.  Upon a plea or verdict
  1  7 of guilty of a violation of this paragraph, the court shall
  1  8 order the state department of transportation to revoke the
  1  9 defendant's motor vehicle license or nonresident operating
  1 10 privileges for a period of six years.  The defendant shall
  1 11 surrender to the court any Iowa license or permit and the
  1 12 court shall forward it to the department with a copy of the
  1 13 revocation order.
  1 14    Sec. 2.  Section 707.6A, subsection 1, Code 1995, is
  1 15 amended by adding the following new unnumbered paragraph:
  1 16    NEW UNNUMBERED PARAGRAPH.  Upon a plea or verdict of guilty
  1 17 of a violation of this subsection, the court shall order the
  1 18 state department of transportation to revoke the defendant's
  1 19 motor vehicle license or nonresident operating privileges for
  1 20 a period of six years.  The defendant shall surrender to the
  1 21 court any Iowa license or permit and the court shall forward
  1 22 it to the department with a copy of the revocation order.  
  1 23                           EXPLANATION
  1 24    This bill provides for a six-year revocation of the
  1 25 licenses of persons who unintentionally cause the death of
  1 26 another person while committing the offenses of reckless
  1 27 driving or eluding a police officer.  Currently, the
  1 28 revocation only applies to deaths resulting from the
  1 29 commission of the offense of operating while intoxicated.
