1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 476.1E LIMITATION ON SALE OF
1 2 CUSTOMER TELEPHONE NUMBER LISTS.
1 3 A public utility furnishing communications services to the
1 4 public for compensation or a long distance telephone company
1 5 shall not sell or otherwise make available a list including
1 6 the names and telephone numbers, or the telephone numbers
1 7 alone, of the utility's or long distance telephone company's
1 8 customers who are located in this state, unless the utility or
1 9 long distance telephone company has obtained the written
1 10 authorization of the customer whose name and telephone number,
1 11 or whose telephone number alone, is to appear on the list.
1 12 EXPLANATION
1 13 This bill provides that a public utility furnishing
1 14 communications services to the public for compensation or a
1 15 long distance telephone company shall not sell or otherwise
1 16 make available a list including the names and telephone
1 17 numbers, or the telephone numbers alone, of the utility's or
1 18 long distance telephone company's Iowa customers, without
1 19 first obtaining the written authorization of a customer whose
1 20 name and telephone number, or whose telephone number alone, is
1 21 to appear on the list.
