1 1 Section 1. Section 321.34, Code 1995, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 18. SILVER OR BRONZE STAR PLATES. The
1 4 owner of a motor vehicle subject to registration pursuant to
1 5 section 321.109, subsection 1, multipurpose vehicle, light
1 6 delivery truck, panel delivery truck, or pickup, who was
1 7 awarded a silver or a bronze star by the United States
1 8 government, may upon written application to the department and
1 9 presentation of satisfactory proof of the award of the silver
1 10 or bronze star, order special registration plates. The design
1 11 of the plates shall include a representation of a silver or
1 12 bronze star centered on the left side of the plate. The
1 13 plates shall be numbered in sequence beginning with 00001.
1 14 The application is subject to approval by the department in
1 15 consultation with the adjutant general. The special
1 16 registration plates shall be issued to the applicant in
1 17 exchange for the registration plates previously issued to that
1 18 person. The fee for the silver or bronze star plates shall be
1 19 twenty-five dollars which shall be in addition to the regular
1 20 annual registration fee. The department shall validate the
1 21 special plates in the same manner as regular registration
1 22 plates are validated under this section.
1 23 Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. This bill takes effect on January
1 24 1, 1996.
1 25 EXPLANATION
1 26 This bill provides for the issuance of silver or bronze
1 27 star motor vehicle registration plates to a recipient of a
1 28 silver or bronze star by the United States government. This
1 29 bill is effective January 1, 1996.
