1 2 BY COMMITTEE ON JUDICIARY
1 3 (SUCCESSOR TO SSB 139)
1 4 A Concurrent Resolution requesting the legislative council to
1 5 establish a committee to study Iowa's domestic abuse law.
1 6 WHEREAS, the matter of domestic abuse continues to
1 7 be a significant threat to many Iowa citizens; and
1 8 WHEREAS, the state of Iowa recognizes the
1 9 importance of improving the response of state and
1 10 local governments to domestic abuse situations,
1 11 particularly regarding the protection of individuals
1 12 who have suffered domestic abuse; NOW THEREFORE,
1 13 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF
1 14 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, That the legislative
1 15 council is requested to establish a study committee to
1 16 examine the domestic abuse Act, chapter 236,
1 17 particularly the effectiveness of current measures to
1 18 protect persons from domestic abuse under chapter 236,
1 19 and also protective orders entered pursuant to
1 20 marriage dissolution proceedings and restraining
1 21 orders under the victim and witness protection Act and
1 22 report its findings and recommendations to the general
1 23 assembly prior to the 1996 legislative session.
