  1  1    Amend Senate File 2114 as follows:
  1  2    #1.  Page 3, by striking lines 20 through 33, and
  1  3 inserting the following:
  1  4    "Sec.    .  SENTENCING TASK FORCE.  The legislative
  1  5 council is requested to establish a task force to
  1  6 study currently available sentencing and incarceration
  1  7 options.  The task force may, but is not limited to,
  1  8 the review of the following:  the availability of
  1  9 jail, community corrections, and prison beds; the
  1 10 potential impact of the use of split sentencing on
  1 11 jail, community corrections, and prison bed space;
  1 12 security needs and costs associated with the
  1 13 implementation of hard labor requirements for persons
  1 14 incarcerated in corrections institutions; and the
  1 15 nature and costs associated with other sentencing
  1 16 options.  The legislative council may employ a
  1 17 consultant to assist the task force.  The task force
  1 18 shall have the following membership:
  1 19    1.  Five ex officio, nonvoting members each from
  1 20 the senate and the house of representatives."
  1 21    #2.  Page 4, by inserting after line 4 the
  1 22 following:
  1 23    "6.  A representative from the board of parole.
  1 24    7.  A district director of a judicial district
  1 25 department of correctional services.
  1 26    8.  A district judge.
  1 27    9.  A justice of the supreme court.
  1 28    The task force shall not hold any meetings prior to
  1 29 November 5, 1996.  However, the consultant shall be
  1 30 employed prior to that date and operate under guidance
  1 31 from the acting co-chairpersons of the task force
  1 32 prior to the first meeting of the task force."
  1 33    #3.  Page 4, line 5, by striking the word
  1 34 "committee" and inserting the following:  "task
  1 35 force".
  1 36    #4.  Title page, line 6, by striking the words
  1 37 "legislative interim" and inserting the following:
  1 38 "sentencing task force".
  1 39    #5.  By renumbering as necessary.
