  1  1    Section 1.  Section 805.6, subsection 4, Code 1995, is
  1  2 amended to read as follows:
  1  3    4.  The uniform citation and complaint shall contain a
  1  4 place for the verification of the officer issuing the
  1  5 complaint.  The complaint may be verified before the chief
  1  6 officer of the law enforcement agency, or the chief officer's
  1  7 designee, and the chief officer of each law enforcement agency
  1  8 of the state is authorized to designate specific individuals
  1  9 to administer oaths and certify verifications in accordance
  1 10 with section 622.1.  
  1 11                           EXPLANATION
  1 12    This bill provides that an officer issuing a citation on a
  1 13 uniform citation and complaint form may verify the complaint
  1 14 through an unsworn written statement, under penalty of
  1 15 perjury, in accordance with section 622.1.  Currently, a
  1 16 complaint must be verified in the presence of a person
  1 17 authorized to verify complaints and administer oaths.
