1 1 Section 1. Section 670.4, Code 1995, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 14. Any claim based upon an act or
1 4 omission by an officer or employee of the municipality in
1 5 connection with abatement of a public nuisance, cleanup work,
1 6 or the maintenance of grounds of an abandoned building, as
1 7 defined by section 657A.1, of abandoned property located in
1 8 the county that has remained vacant for six consecutive
1 9 months, or of a parcel of land purchased by a municipality at
1 10 a tax sale, pursuant to section 446.19.
1 11 EXPLANATION
1 12 This bill exempts a municipality from liability for an act
1 13 or omission by an officer or employee of the municipality in
1 14 connection with abatement of a public nuisance, cleanup work,
1 15 or maintenance of grounds of an abandoned building, of
1 16 abandoned property located in the county that has remained
1 17 vacant for six consecutive months, or of a parcel of land
1 18 purchased by a municipality at a tax sale. A municipality
1 19 means a city, county, township, school district, or any other
1 20 unit of local government except soil and water conservation
1 21 districts.
