  1  1    Section 1.  Section 257.6, subsection 1, unnumbered
  1  2 paragraph 1, Code 1995, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    1.  ACTUAL ENROLLMENT.  Actual enrollment is determined on
  1  4 the third Friday of September in December 1 of each year and
  1  5 includes all of the following:
  1  6    Sec. 2.  Section 257.6, subsection 1, unnumbered paragraph
  1  7 3, Code 1995, is amended to read as follows:
  1  8    A school district shall certify its actual enrollment to
  1  9 the department of education by October 1 December 15 of each
  1 10 year, and the department shall promptly forward the
  1 11 information to the department of management.  
  1 12                           EXPLANATION
  1 13    This bill provides that a school district shall calculate
  1 14 actual enrollment for a budget year on December 1, and certify
  1 15 that information by December 15 to the department of
  1 16 education.  This change would conform to the calculation and
  1 17 certification dates applicable to special education students.
