PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 249A.4, subsection 8, unnumbered 1 2 paragraph 1, Code 1995, is amended to read as follows: 1 3 Shall advise and consult at least semiannually with a 1 4 council composed of the presidents of the following 1 5 organizations, or a president's representative who is a member 1 6 of the organization represented by the president: the Iowa 1 7 medical society, the Iowa osteopathic medical association, the 1 8 Iowa state dental society, the Iowa state nurses association, 1 9 the Iowa pharmacists association, the Iowa podiatry society, 1 10 the Iowa optometric association, the community mental health 1 11 centers association of Iowa, the Iowa psychological 1 12 association, the association of Iowahospital association1 13 hospitals and health systems, the Iowa osteopathic hospital 1 14 association, opticians' association of Iowa, inc., the Iowa 1 15 hearing aid society, the Iowa speech, language, and hearing 1 16 association, the Iowa health care association, the Iowa 1 17 association for home care, the Iowa council of health care 1 18 centers, the Iowa physician assistant society, the Iowa 1 19 association of nurse practitioners, and the Iowa association 1 20 of homes for the aging, the Iowa psychiatric nurse managers 1 21 network, the arc of Iowa which was formerly known as the 1 22 association for retarded citizens of Iowa, the alliance for 1 23 the mentally ill of Iowa, Iowa state association of counties, 1 24 and the Iowa governor's planning council for developmental 1 25 disabilities, together with one person designated by the Iowa 1 26 state board of chiropractic examiners; one state 1 27 representative from each of the two major political parties 1 28 appointed by the speaker of the house, one state senator from 1 29 each of the two major political parties appointed by the 1 30 president of the senate, after consultation with the majority 1 31 leader and the minority leader of the senate, each for a term 1 32 of two years; four public representatives, appointed by the 1 33 governor for staggered terms of two years each, none of whom 1 34 shall be members of, or practitioners of, or have a pecuniary 1 35 interest in any of the professions or businesses represented 2 1 by any of the several professional groups and associations 2 2 specifically represented on the council under this subsection, 2 3 and at least one of whom shall be a recipient of medical 2 4 assistance; the director of public health, or a representative 2 5 designated by the director; and the dean of the college of 2 6 medicine, university of Iowa, or a representative designated 2 7 by the dean. 2 8 EXPLANATION 2 9 This bill adds a representative of the Iowa physician 2 10 assistant society and a representative of the Iowa association 2 11 of nurse practitioners to the membership of the council which 2 12 consults with the director of human services regarding medical 2 13 assistance. The bill also corrects the reference to the Iowa 2 14 hospital association which is now the association of Iowa 2 15 hospitals and health systems. 2 16 LSB 4190HH 76 2 17 pf/jw/5.1
