1 1 Section 1. Section 481A.10A, Code 1995, is amended to read
1 2 as follows:
1 3 481A.10A FARMER ADVISORY COMMITTEE.
1 4 1. The director shall establish a farmer advisory
1 5 committee for the purpose of providing information to the
1 6 department regarding crop and tree damage caused by deer, wild
1 7 turkey, and other predators. The committee shall serve
1 8 without compensation or reimbursement for expenses.
1 9 2. A landowner may claim compensation from the state for
1 10 the actual damages caused by deer to the landowner's crops,
1 11 agricultural equipment, and other property related to
1 12 agricultural production. The claim shall be filed and
1 13 processed as provided in chapter 25. The wildlife damage
1 14 officer of the department of natural resources shall assist
1 15 the claimant and the special assistant attorney general for
1 16 claims under chapter 25 in determining the actual damages
1 17 caused by deer to the claimant's property.
1 18 EXPLANATION
1 19 This bill provides that a landowner may claim compensation
1 20 from the state for actual damages caused by deer to the
1 21 landowner's crop, agricultural equipment, and other property
1 22 related to agricultural production. The wildlife damage
1 23 control officer of the department of natural resources shall
1 24 assist the claimant and the special assistant attorney general
1 25 for claims in determining the actual damages caused by the
1 26 deer.
