  1  1    Section 1.  Section 359.43, subsection 4, Code 1995, is
  1  2 amended to read as follows:
  1  3    4.  Of the levies authorized under subsections 1 and 2, the
  1  4 township trustees may credit to a reserve account annually an
  1  5 amount not to exceed ten thirty cents per thousand dollars of
  1  6 the assessed value of the taxable property in the township for
  1  7 the purchase or replacement of supplies and equipment required
  1  8 to carry out the services specified under section 359.42.
  1  9 Notwithstanding section 12C.7, interest earned on moneys
  1 10 credited to the reserve account shall be credited to the
  1 11 reserve account.  
  1 12                           EXPLANATION
  1 13    This bill increases the allowable amount of tax credited to
  1 14 the reserve account for township fire protection and related
  1 15 emergency purposes from 10 cents to 30 cents per $1,000 of
  1 16 taxable valuation.  The reserve account is dedicated to the
  1 17 purchase or replacement of supplies and equipment used for
  1 18 fire protection, emergency warning systems, and ambulance
  1 19 services offered by a township.
