1 1 Section 1. Section 481A.38, Code 1995, is amended by
1 2 adding the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 4. If the commission finds that the
1 4 population of deer is not being controlled by the regular
1 5 hunting seasons, the commission shall extend the open season
1 6 or set a second open season in one or more hunting zones.
1 7 The extended or second open season shall be for antlerless
1 8 deer only. During the extended or second open season for
1 9 antlerless deer, a hunter may use a deer hunting license
1 10 purchased for the regular season or purchase an antlerless
1 11 deer hunting license for the fee specified in section 483A.1
1 12 Sec. 2. Section 483A.1, subsection 2, Code 1995, is
1 13 amended by adding the following new paragraph:
1 14 NEW PARAGRAPH. g. Resident antlerless deer hunting
1 15 license for extended or second season ........ $ 15.00
1 16 EXPLANATION
1 17 This bill provides that if the natural resource commission
1 18 finds that the regular deer hunting seasons are not
1 19 controlling the population of deer in one or more hunting
1 20 zones, the commission shall extend or set a second hunting
1 21 season for the hunting zones. A hunter may use the deer
1 22 hunting license and tags from the regular season or purchase
1 23 an antlerless deer hunting license for the extended or second
1 24 season. The fee for the antlerless deer hunting license is
1 25 $15.00.
