1 1 Section 1. Section 331.234, subsections 2, 3, and 4, Code
1 2 1995, are amended by striking the subsections.
1 3 EXPLANATION
1 4 This bill strikes the statutory provisions for funding the
1 5 supplies, equipment, and expenses of the county charter
1 6 commission.
1 7 Section 331.234, subsection 2, prohibits compensation for
1 8 commission members, but authorizes reimbursement for travel
1 9 and related expenses.
1 10 Section 331.234, subsection 3, requires the board of
1 11 supervisors to provide a number of in-kind services such as
1 12 office space, supplies, and equipment and pay for other
1 13 necessary expenses of the commission including professional
1 14 and nonprofessional services. The subsection restricts public
1 15 funds to $100,000 or an amount equal to 30 cents times the
1 16 population of the commission area.
1 17 Section 331.234, subsection 4, authorizes payment of
1 18 commission expenses from the general fund of the county or
1 19 from a combination of private and public funds. The
1 20 commission's annual expenditures are limited by the
1 21 restrictions in section 331.234, subsection 3, but private
1 22 funding may be used to exceed the restrictions.
