  1  1    Section 1.  Section 47.2, subsection 5, Code 1995, is
  1  2 amended to read as follows:
  1  3    5.  The office of county auditor or county commissioner of
  1  4 elections in each county shall be open for at least eight
  1  5 hours on the Saturday either an additional two hours each day
  1  6 during the week, preceding a general election, primary
  1  7 election, or special election called by the governor, or for
  1  8 at least eight hours on the Saturday preceding such election,
  1  9 or both of those times, for the purpose of receiving absentee
  1 10 ballots and conducting other official business relating to the
  1 11 election.  
  1 12                           EXPLANATION
  1 13    This bill provides that the office of county commissioner
  1 14 of elections be open an additional two hours each day during
  1 15 the week preceding a general, primary, or special election or
  1 16 for at least eight hours on the Saturday preceding the
  1 17 election, or both.  Currently, the commissioner of elections
  1 18 is required to open the office for at least eight hours on the
  1 19 Saturday preceding a general, primary, or special election.
