PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 331.237, subsection 3, Code 1995, is 1 2 amended to read as follows: 1 3 3. If a charter is submitted to the electorate but is not 1 4 adopted, another charter shall not be submitted to the 1 5 electorate for two years. If a charter is adopted, it may be 1 6 amended at any time.IfHowever, if a charter which includes 1 7 an alternative form of county government is adopted or 1 8 rejected, a proposed charter for another alternative form of 1 9 county government shall not be submitted to the electorate for 1 10 six years. 1 11 EXPLANATION 1 12 This bill provides that if a charter which includes an 1 13 alternative form of county government is submitted to the 1 14 county electorate and not adopted, another charter, with an 1 15 alternative form of county government, shall not be submitted 1 16 to the county electorate for six years. 1 17 Under current law, another charter proposal with or without 1 18 an alternative form of county government may be submitted two 1 19 years after a defeat. However, if a charter is adopted by the 1 20 county electorate, current law requires six years before 1 21 another alternative form of government may be submitted to the 1 22 county electorate. 1 23 LSB 1556HH 76 1 24 tj/jj/8
