1 1 Amend Senate File 486, as amended, passed, and
1 2 reprinted by the Senate, as follows:
1 3 #1. Page 1, by inserting after line 24 the
1 4 following:
1 5 "Sec. 801. AT-RISK FUNDING FOR TUTORING SERVICES.
1 6 1. Notwithstanding section 8.33 and section
1 7 279.51, subsection 1, paragraph "b", for the fiscal
1 8 year ending June 30, 1995, from the funds allocated to
1 9 the child development coordinating council that would
1 10 otherwise revert to the general fund, up to $60,000
1 11 shall be transferred to the department of education
1 12 during either the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1994,
1 13 or the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1995, for the
1 14 public purpose of contracting with a statewide
1 15 nonprofit organization, within the meaning of section
1 16 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, pursuant to
1 17 subsection 3, to provide educational tutoring services
1 18 to at-risk students who are not meeting the academic
1 19 requirements of their schools.
1 20 2. Notwithstanding section 279.51, subsection 1,
1 21 paragraph "b", for the fiscal year beginning July 1,
1 22 1995, $60,000 shall be transferred to the department
1 23 of education for the public purpose of contracting
1 24 with a statewide nonprofit organization, within the
1 25 meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue
1 26 Code, pursuant to subsection 3, to provide educational
1 27 tutoring services to at-risk students who are not
1 28 meeting the academic requirements of their schools.
1 29 3. To qualify for a contract under this section, a
1 30 statewide nonprofit organization shall have provided
1 31 educational tutoring services to not less than 1,000
1 32 students per year since calendar year 1993, at no cost
1 33 to the students; shall demonstrate accountability for
1 34 academic progress; be characterized by partnerships
1 35 with other agencies that provide services to at-risk
1 36 youth; and provide tutoring sites in rural and urban
1 37 sites."
1 38 #2. Page 2, line 15, by inserting after the word
1 39 "Sections" the following: "801,".
1 40 #3. By renumbering and correcting internal
1 41 references as necessary.
