PAG LIN 1 1 Amend House File 499 as follows: 1 2 #1. Page 1, by inserting before line 1 the follow- 1 3 ing: 1 4 "Section 1. Section 556.1, Code 1995, is amended 1 5 by adding the following new subsection: 1 6 NEW SUBSECTION. 5A. "Money order" includes an 1 7 express money order and a personal money order, on 1 8 which the remitter is the purchaser. "Money order" 1 9 does not include a bank money order or any other 1 10 instrument sold by a banking or financial organization 1 11 if the seller has obtained the name and address of the 1 12 payee. 1 13 Sec. 2. Section 556.2, subsection 4, Code 1995, is 1 14 amended to read as follows: 1 15 4. Any sum payable on checks certified in this 1 16 state or on written instruments issued in this state 1 17 on which a banking or financial organization or 1 18 business association is directly liable, including, by 1 19 way of illustration but not of limitation, 1 20 certificates of deposit, drafts, money orders, and 1 21 traveler's checks, that, with the exception of 1 22 traveler's checks and money orders, has been 1 23 outstanding for more than three years from the date it 1 24 was payable, or from the date of its issuance if 1 25 payable on demand, or, in the case of traveler's 1 26 checks, that has been outstanding for more than 1 27 fifteen years from the date ofitsissuance, or, in 1 28 the case of money orders, that has been outstanding 1 29 for more than seven years from the date of issuance, 1 30 unless the owner has within three years, or within 1 31 fifteen years in the case of traveler's checks or 1 32 seven years in the case of money orders, corresponded 1 33 in writing with the banking or financial organization 1 34 or business association concerned, or otherwise 1 35 indicated an interest as evidenced by a memorandum on 1 36 file with the banking or financial organization or 1 37 business association. The memorandum shall be dated 1 38 and may have been prepared by the banking or financial 1 39 organization or business association, in which case it 1 40 shall be signed by an officer of the banking or 1 41 financial organization, or a member of the business 1 42 association, or it may have been prepared by the 1 43 owner." 1 44 #2.
