3BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  HEALTH AND RESILIENCE OUTREACH (HERO) PROJECT
2— APPROPRIATION.
  There is appropriated from the general fund
3of the state to the department on aging for the fiscal year
4beginning July 1, 2017, and ending June 30, 2018, the following
5amount, or so much thereof as is necessary, for the purposes
6designated:
 7For the public purpose of providing a grant to an
8organization that is the Iowa chapter of a national nonprofit
9organization that is the leading voluntary health organization
10in Alzheimer’s care, support, and research and provides
11vital services, education, and support to people living with
12Alzheimer’s as well as their family members and caregivers,
13to implement and expand the volunteer health and resilience
14outreach (HERO) project:

16The moneys appropriated in this section shall be used
17for volunteer recruitment, volunteer training, and respite
18scholarships to maintain caregiver resilience and to keep the
19person diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia
20in the person’s own home for a longer period of time than would
21otherwise be possible.
22EXPLANATION
23The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
24the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   25This bill appropriates moneys from the general fund of the
26state to the department on aging for FY 2017-2018 for the
27public purpose of providing a grant to an organization that
28is the Iowa chapter of a national nonprofit organization that
29is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s
30care, support, and research and provides vital services,
31education, and support to people living with Alzheimer’s as
32well as their family members and caregivers, to implement and
33expand the volunteer health and resilience outreach (HERO)
34project. The moneys appropriated shall be used for volunteer
35recruitment, volunteer training, and respite scholarships to

2with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia in the person’s
3own home for a longer period of time than would otherwise be
4possible.
