3BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1 Section 1. Section 462A.31, subsection 1, paragraph b, Code
22017, is amended to read as follows:
3b. A motorboat equipped with any power unit mounted
4or carried aboard the vessel may be operated at a no-wake
5speed on all artificial lakes of more than one hundred acres
6in size under the custody of the department. However, on
7lake Macbride, a motorboat with a power unit exceeding ten
8horsepower may be operated only when permitted by rule and
9the rule shall not authorize such use during the period
10beginning on the Friday before Memorial Day and ending on Labor
11Day inclusively. This paragraph does not limit motorboat
12horsepower on natural lakes under the custody of the department
13or limit the department’s authority to establish special speed
14zoning regulations.
15EXPLANATION
16The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
17the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
18This bill amends Code section 462A.31(1)(b) to allow
19the operation of motorboats with power units exceeding
2010 horsepower at any time on lake Macbride so long as the
21motorboats are operated at no-wake speed.
