3BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1 Section 1. Section 331.608, subsection 6, paragraph b, Code
22017, is amended to read as follows:
3b. To a person requesting to examine or copy a record when
4the event that resulted in the record being made occurred more
5than seventy-five sixty-two years prior to the request.
6EXPLANATION
7The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
8the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
9This bill concerns the release of military personnel records
10maintained by a county recorder under Code section 331.608.
11The bill allows a person to request a copy of a record that
12would otherwise be confidential if the event that resulted in
13the record being made occurred more than 62 years prior to the
14request. Current law requires the event to have occurred more
15than 75 years prior to the request.
