3BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1 Section 1. Section 321.463, subsection 5, paragraph c,
2subparagraph (2), Code 2017, is amended to read as follows:
3(2) Notwithstanding any provision of this section to the
4contrary, the maximum gross weight allowed to be carried on
5a noninterstate highway by a livestock vehicle transporting
6agricultural commodities, including crops and livestock, that
7is equipped with five axles, with a minimum distance in feet
8 between the centers of the first and fifth axles of sixty-one
9feet, and a minimum distance between the two rear axles of at
10least eight feet and one inch, is eighty-six thousand pounds.
11EXPLANATION
12The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
13the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
14Current law provides that the maximum gross weight allowed
15to be carried on noninterstate highways by certain motor
16vehicles transporting livestock is 86,000 pounds. This bill
17broadens that provision to include motor vehicles transporting
18agricultural commodities, including crops and livestock.
