3BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1 Section 1. Section 715A.1, Code 2023, is amended by adding
2the following new subsection:
3 NEW SUBSECTION. 2A. “Movie prop money” means a product
4produced by a company or corporation to represent authentic
5money for use by filmmakers, directors, or photographers for
6use in film or theatrical productions or in print media.
7 Sec. 2. NEW SECTION. 715A.6C Movie prop money.
8A person commits a class “D” felony if, with the intent to
9defraud or injure anyone, the person utters movie prop money
10for the purpose of obtaining property or services.
11EXPLANATION
12The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
13the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
14This bill relates to forgery involving movie prop money, and
15provides penalties.
16The bill provides that a person commits a class “D” felony
17if, with the intent to defraud or injure anyone, the person
18utters movie prop money for the purpose of obtaining property
19or services.
20The bill defines “movie prop money” as a product produced by
21a company or corporation to represent authentic money for use
22by filmmakers, directors, or photographers for use in film or
23theatrical productions or in print media.
24A class “D” felony is punishable by confinement for no more
25than five years and a fine of at least $1,025 but not more than
26$10,245.
