Senate Study Bill 1023 - IntroducedA Bill ForAn Act 1relating to disbursements from the computer science

4BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  Section 284.6A, Code 2023, is amended by adding
2the following new subsection:
3   NEW SUBSECTION.  2A.  A recipient of a grant under subsection
42 may receive moneys from the fund for expenses the recipient
5incurs during the fiscal year in which the department awards
6the grant through September 30 of the following year.
7   Sec. 2.  APPLICABILITY.  This Act applies to grants the
8department of education awards from the computer science
9professional development incentive fund on or after the
10effective date of this Act.
11EXPLANATION
12The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
13the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   14This bill relates to disbursements from the computer science
15professional development incentive fund.
   16Current law authorizes the department of education
17to award grants from the computer science professional
18development incentive fund to school districts, accredited
19nonpublic schools, and area education agencies to provide
20proven professional development activities for teachers in
21the area of computer science education. Current law also
22authorizes the department to award grants from the fund to
23school districts and accredited nonpublic schools to provide
24tuition reimbursement for teachers seeking endorsements or
25authorizations for computer science.
   26The bill provides that recipients of a grant from the fund
27may receive moneys for expenses incurred during the fiscal year
28in which the department awards the grant through September 30
29of the following year.
   30The bill applies to grants from the fund on or after the
31effective date of the bill.
