Senate Concurrent Resolution 2 - Introduced

A Concurrent Resolution 1urging the members of the
2Congress of the United States to propose an
3amendment to the Constitution of the United States
4to require that the Supreme Court of the United
5States be composed of nine justices.
6WHEREAS, the United States Constitution established
7the Supreme Court of the United States, charged with
8ensuring the American people the promise of equal
9justice under the law;and
10WHEREAS, the United States Constitution delegated
11the determination of how many justices sit on the
12Supreme Court of the United States to the United States
13Congress;and
14WHEREAS, in 1869 the United States Congress raised
15the number of justices on the Supreme Court of the
16United States to nine and has maintained that number
17since that time;NOW THEREFORE,
   18BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF
19REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, That the Iowa General
20Assembly urges the Congress of the United States to
21propose an amendment to the Constitution of the United
22States requiring that the Supreme Court of the United
23States shall be composed of nine justices;and

   24BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Secretary of the
25Senate shall transmit copies of this resolution to the
26President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of
27the United States House of Representatives, and each
28member of Iowa’s congressional delegation.
