House Resolution 109 - Introduced

An Act 1honoring the achievements and
2contributions of Gene Elliott.
3WHEREAS, Mr.Gene Elliott, a senior amateur golfer,
4is a resident of West Des Moines, Iowa, and an Iowa
5native, having been born in Fairfield, Iowa;and
6WHEREAS, the State of Iowa has an unparalleled
7interest in the game of golf, as evidenced by having
8more golf courses per capita than any other state, and
9the most nine-hole golf courses in the nation;and
10WHEREAS, Mr.Elliott has distinguished himself
11as being the top-ranked senior amateur golfer in
12the United States and in the world as of January 14,
14WHEREAS, Mr.Elliott accomplished a feat only
15achieved by two other individuals in the history of
16golf by winning the Canadian Senior Amateur in 2020,
17the British Senior Amateur Championship in 2021, and
18the United States Senior Amateur in 2021;and
19WHEREAS, Mr.Elliott has won dozens of other state
20and national golf tournaments;and
21WHEREAS, Mr.Elliott was recently recognized in the
22national publication “Golfweek” and named the 2021
23Yancey Ford Award winner for significant contributions
24to senior amateur golf;and
25WHEREAS, Mr.Elliott has been a great ambassador
-1-1for the State of Iowa and the United States, playing
2nationally and internationally and gaining the respect
3of golfers throughout the world;and
4WHEREAS, Mr.Elliott has had an impact well beyond
5the Hawkeye State and developed friendships throughout
6the world of golf;and
7WHEREAS, Mr.Elliott was inducted into the Iowa Golf
8Association Hall of Fame in 2012;and
9WHEREAS, Mr.Elliott has been a role model for
10thousands of golfers throughout the State of Iowa
11and the United States by conducting himself in a
12gentlemanly manner with civility during national and
13international competitions;and
14WHEREAS, Mr.Elliott has promoted the game of
15golf on a state, national, and international level
16encouraging youth to play by the rules and be civil
17while in competition;NOW THEREFORE,
19the House of Representatives recognizes and honors Mr.
20Gene Elliott for his numerous accomplishments while
21promoting the game of golf, for emphasizing civility
22and the importance of playing by the rules, and for
23being an ambassador for the State of Iowa throughout
24the United States and the world;and

   25BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon passage of
26this resolution the Chief Clerk of the House of
27Representatives shall provide a copy of this resolution
28to Mr.Elliott.
