5BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION — WORKING GROUP —
2INSTRUCTION AND EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES RELATED TO ARCHERY
3AND CROSSBOWS.
   41.  The department of education, in collaboration with the
5department of natural resources, shall convene and provide
6administrative support to a working group that shall study
7the feasibility of integrating crossbow instruction into the
8physical education curriculum and extracurricular programs
9provided to students enrolled in grades seven through twelve
10to provide equal access to archery participation in order to
11comply with Tit.IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Pub.
12L.No.92-318.
   132.  Any expenses incurred by a member of the working group
14shall be the responsibility of the individual member or the
15respective entity represented by the member.
   163.  The working group shall submit its findings and
17recommendations to the general assembly in a report on or
18before December 31, 2022.
19EXPLANATION
20The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
21the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   22This bill requires the department of education to convene
23a working group to study the feasibility of integrating
24crossbow instruction into the physical education curriculum and
25extracurricular programs.
   26The bill directs the department of education to convene
27a working group to study the feasibility of integrating
28crossbow instruction into the physical education curriculum
29and extracurricular programs provided to students enrolled
30in grades 7 through 12 to provide equal access to archery
31participation in order to comply with Tit.IX of the Education
32Amendments of 1972.
   33The bill requires the working group to provide a report to
34the general assembly detailing the working group’s findings and
35recommendations on or before December 31, 2022.
