3employment.
4BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  NEW SECTION.  724.4F  Limitation on employers —
2firearms and ammunition.
   31.  For purposes of this section, “employee” includes a
4contract employee or volunteer.
   52.  An employer shall not prohibit an employee from carrying,
6transporting, or possessing a firearm or ammunition if the
7firearm and ammunition are out of sight and inside the locked
8motor vehicle of the employee on the real property comprising
9the employee’s place of employment, provided the motor vehicle
10is parked in a location designated or allowed for employee
11parking, and if the carrying, transportation, or possession of
12the firearm or ammunition is otherwise lawful under the laws
13of this state.
   143.  An employer, owner, or lawful possessor of the property
15on which the employer is located shall be immune from any
16claim, cause of action, or lawsuit brought by any person
17seeking damages that are alleged, directly or indirectly, as a
18result of any firearm or ammunition brought onto the property
19of the employer, owner, or lawful possessor by an employee
20pursuant to this section.
21EXPLANATION
22The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
23the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   24This bill provides that an employer shall not prohibit an
25employee, which includes a contract employee or volunteer,
26from carrying, transporting, or possessing a firearm or
27ammunition on the real property comprising the employee’s place
28of employment if the firearm and ammunition are out of sight
29and inside the locked motor vehicle of the employee, provided
30the vehicle is parked in a location designated or allowed for
31employee parking, and if the carrying, transportation, or
32possession of the firearm or ammunition is otherwise lawful
33under Iowa law. The bill further provides that an employer,
34owner, or lawful possessor of the property on which the
35employer is located is immune from any claim brought by any

2of any firearm or ammunition brought onto the property of the
3employer, owner, or lawful possessor by an employee pursuant
4to the bill.
