Senate File 2190 - IntroducedA Bill ForAn Act 1relating to the use of child labor for certain bakery
2machine occupations utilizing pizza dough rollers.
3BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  Section 92.8, subsection 10, Code 2022, is
2amended to read as follows:
   310.  Occupations involved in the operation of certain
4power-driven bakery machines. Except as otherwise provided
5in this subsection, this subsection does not apply to the
6operation of pizza dough rollers that are a type of dough
7sheeter that have been constructed with safeguards contained in
8the basic design so as to prevent fingers, hands, or clothing
9from being caught in the in-running point of the rollers,
10that have gears that are completely enclosed, and that have
11microswitches that disengage the machinery if the backs or
12sides of the rollers are removed, only when all the safeguards
13detailed in this subsection are present on the machinery, are
14operational, and have not been overridden. However, this
15subsection does apply to the setting up, adjusting, repairing,
16oiling, or cleaning of pizza dough rollers as described in this
17subsection.

18EXPLANATION
19The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
20the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   21This bill creates an exception to the provision that a person
22under the age of 18 is prohibited from working at an occupation
23involved in the operation of certain power-driven bakery
24machines by allowing a person under the age of 18 to operate
25power-driven pizza dough rollers that are equipped with certain
26safety features that are operational and not overridden.
27However, the bill does not allow a person under the age of 18 to
28set up, adjust, repair, oil, or clean a pizza dough roller.
